I am using WMB TK 6.1.0.3 on WIndows

I hit Ctl-N (Wizards) and open the following:

+ Broker Administration - Getting Started
---- Create the Default Configuration

The first panel of the wizard asks for the User name and password I logged in under

(I installed WMQ, WMB, and WMB TK under user 'Administrator')

When I try to create the default configuration, the panel says thta I can not proceed because my user name is greater than 12 characters (Administrator has 13 characters).

My question: WIll the default configuration work if I create a new user and create the default configuration under taht new user, or must I uninstall WMB, WMB TK , and WMQ and reinstall them under the new, shorter user name.

Thanks

So, the only account on your system is Administrator?

That is not good practice as I'm sure you are aware.

Did you create the new account, add it to the mqm & mqbrkrs group and try it?

I agree, its not a good practice, but I was assigned to perform this in that manner. Now I have a good reason to use a different user.

I have not tried that yet, I was wondering if it would work, and if it would violate any secutity issues, especially when remote clients log in

Usually, remote WMQ client apps have security issues when the client is logged under a different user name than the WMQ on the server. However if both the remote WMQ client and the WMQ server have the same user name, there does not appear to be any security issues.

However, its been a while.

Is that your understanding as well ?

Never mind "not a good practice" - as you've discovered it doesn't work as "Administrator" is too long. You might mention this to whoever assigned you the work, who clearly has limited WMQ/WMB experience.

The default configuration is exactly that - a set of WMQ/WMB objects with default names and set up. You can make any changes you need to it, including changing the security if you want to.

Using different names on the remote server is possible, if the configuration is made correctly.

Anyone who would tell you it is *more* secure to use a non-specific 'Administrator' ID for all business services, rather than a business service specific wmb ID is clearly a user who a) doesn't know what 'security' means, b) does all Unix administration by logging into the root user from telnet.
