Hi all,

I think I am missing something simple. I have set up my broker v2.1, DB2 v8.1 and MQ server v5.3 and they are working fine.

To do admin I log on as the broker admin account and I can see all the brokers in the assignments view no problem.

When I try to give another user rights to see and manipulate the brokers under her personal account she doesn't see any brokers at all.

I have added her to all the MQSI groups and in frustration to the MQM group yet she still cannot see the brokers in the assignments view.

Can anyone point me in the right direction, the Googles hate me today.

You are missing the fact that you're installing incredibly old, unsupported versions that absolutely nobody should be doing anything with.

Try again with version 6 of both Broker and MQ.

Yes they are old but they are being supported by me. And I come here for help, not for a lecture about what I should be running.

Do you have any helpful advice?

Then you're very much on your own in the support task. I doubt there are many other v2.1 users left who'll be able to offer insights (though I wait to be impressed by our membership).

You get both at no extra charge.

Being advised to upgrade is the most helpful advice you could be given.

The key point IMHO is that all 3 are not just old but at least 2 levels back from the respective current version, and all are out of support with IBM.

Also v2.1 was just horrible. Not just "it's old and therefore bad", I used it professionally for some years and it's just contact admin. Even when it worked it was contact admin, and I recall some interesting "features".

Upgrade. It's not like it costs you anything.

I completely agree that they should be upgraded, however I work for a bank that values "things that work" over "things that are up to date".

The whole middleware team have been trying to get upgrades happening, but as we work for the business and they have to find the money it's an uphill struggle. This is the bad thing about MQ and MQSI, for the most part they are unbreakable once working. In some ways it would be preferable to support something rubbish...

Of course, if someone wants an MQ administrator in London where there is something like a modern set of software then I am very interested

They clearly have a new & interesting definition of "things that work", and no definition at all of "business risk". Mind you, given recent events I suppose it's understandable that a bank has a somewhat kamakaze attitude to risk....

Assuming you never change hardware or software, which of course is itself a risk.

PM me and I'll give you the details of my agency.

Seriously, point out to the budget holder exactly how at risk the software stack is and when it's pointed out that "it's been working for years & never failed, upgrading is a waste of money", point out:

- if you drive the same car for 20 years and it's never broken down, this doesn't prove it won't break down tomorrow
- the cost of the upgrade is far less than the loss the bank will make because the system is down
- while the budget holder may encounter some raised eyebrows "wasting" money on upgrades, he will encounter some raised fists from the business in the event of a prolonged outage.

My 2 cents.

To be clear, I cut my teeth on 2.1, and never really found it ... horrible.

But I don't even remember which one is the "assignments" view, nor what one has to do to make it available to users.

I'd suggest you double-check your domain awareness, I remember some quirks in this area.

I lack your grit, determination and genius.

I may also have been spoilt by v6

Oh, sure, in *comparison*. But *at the time*...
