Hi all,
I have already read some information about the Datapower Appliances, but still I am a little bit confused. Below you can find couple of questions, which still makes me wonder:
1. Is it possible to do all the development by using only the XI50 itself? For example routing based on some data in xml file, sending the same xml to several locations, creating normal conditions inside the service, error handling etc.. Is all development/configuration done via Web browser GUI?
2. Is it possible to do the development outside the XI50 with some development software and then just to deploy the service into XI50? If so, which software should be used (or are supported)?
Thank you!

Hi,
I shall try and answer your questions.
1) Not really. The processing rule development is done via the web gui and is fairly straight forward but the xsd and xslt files are generally created via another tool, loaded onto the appliance and associated to the various nodes in the processing rule. If you just want to do simple routing then that can be done on the box but more complicated stuff requires desktop development and web gui development.
2) Again not really. The xsd and xsxlt files can be created using any editor. We tend to use XML-Spy and MapForce. You can also build transformations using WebSphere Transformation Extender and use the created .dpa files but you still need to associate them to the nodes in the processing rule via the web gui. Once build you can export the rules and then import them to other appliances via the web gui, CLI or xml interface.
Personally I tihnk it would be nice if you could do all of your development on the desktop via a single tool then import to the appliance but as far as I am aware there are no plans to do anything like that soon. _________________ Keith Guttridge

I like to think of datapower as more configuration vs. programming - I've done medium complexity implementations with just a browser and writing XSL's using notepad... _________________ IBM Certified - SOA Solution Designer & WebSphere Datapower SOA Appliances |
