Hello,
I never worked on MQ. I got a task assigned to me to patch the servers running mq ver 6.0.2 on multiple platforms like AIX,SunOS,HP-UX,etc.,
Can any one tell me how to do that? or i'd be glad if anyone provides me a doc how to do it.
Thanks |

Download the relevant patch for the platform in question. Apply the patch using the method application to that platform (smit, pkgadd, etc).
Speak to the server administrators on your site for more details. You'll need to ask them for the root password (or root access) to do the task anyway. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Thanks Vitor.
Is smit an application used for installing the patch. is that a script ?
can you tell me how to execute it, if you can give me more in brief, that would be great.
What about pkgadd. I am new to MQ. No idea on anything bud.
Thanks in Advacne |

At the top of this page, click on the Info Center link and open the MQ 6 InfoCenter. Then look at the Quick Beginings Guides for the platforms you have to deal with. Each has a section for upgrading.
When you download the Fix Packs, make sure you read the readme file that comes with the Fix Pack for more information.
Don't know the logic of assigning MQ upgrades to someone that never worked with MQ. Good luck. _________________ Peter Potkay

It's not so much the problem of not knowing MQ ... I'd be more worried by the lack of knowledge of the platform install programs. Is this someone you'd trust with the root id? |

It's the kamakaze school of system administration _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Then you need to spend a lot of time with the WMQ administration, the system admins and some training materials for the various OS you'll be using.
Seriously; if you're asking what those things are you should not be using them. It's not like Windows when you double click install and wander off for a beverage of your choice. You'll also be signed on as root, an id with no restrictions on what it can do. Any commands you type will be taken as holy writ, without so much as an "are you sure y/n" in a lot of cases.
The damage you could inadvertently cause is immense. The problems you could be blamed for (as the last person to change configuration via root) is almost as large.
Again - there is no "brief" way of doing this. Study, talk to people and patch a dev box first!
And make sure there's a system level backup before you start. No disrespect is intended but unexpected things can happen even to the most experienced of us. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.
