Can you upgrade MQ 5.3 to MQ 6.0.2.6 without doing a clean install? |

Define "clean install".
You can upgrade from v5.3 to v6 or v7 without deleting and recreating your queue managers, although you will have to stop them.
You can, on some platforms, install v6 or v7 over top the existing file sets for v5.3, but not on all platforms. On at least one (but not more than one) platform you can install v6 or v7 next to v5.3.
On some platforms you have to uninstall v5.3 and then install v6 or v7. |

We just did that.
We had to first remove the existing MQ installation using the software installer of the platform. We then installed the new 6.0 version and upgraded to 6.0.2.6 with no problem. We had a bizarre message the first time we started a qmgr though. I figured it was due to the conversion of the file format.
Just be sure you have an ms03 backup and a filesystem backup (/var/mqm) so that you can recreate what you need if you have to roll back.
Have fun _________________ MQ & Broker admin |

Make sure a full back-up is done, including the Registry (egg sucking time ). _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |

Only in that v5.3 didn't require SP4 & v6 does (at least to be running on a supported platform configuration).
Aside from that, all other comments from all other posters apply. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Click on the lIbrary link at the top of this screen and look for this:

Also search this site for posts on this topic, as I and others have posted tips and hints of various things we found during the 5.3 to 6.0 migration not covered in the manual. _________________ Peter Potkay
