Hi All,
Briefly this is the process outlined for migrating/upgrading the NEON Formatter and Rules component version 5.2 to version 5.6.
(1) Export all formats from the current version.
(2) Install NEON components
(3) Create and configure the new NEON database using inst_db
(4) Create the ODBC connection, set NNSY* environment variables, update nnsyreg.dat file
(5) Import rules and format into the NEON 5.6 database.
Has anybody tried to migrate without step 1,3,5. ?
Here is the assumption -
The database structure is the same in 5.2 and 5.6 .
The only version specific information i noticed was in NN_PRODUCT_MSTR. This can be updated to the ver 5.6 info.
The advantages are
(1) The migration process is much more compact.
(2) Reuse existing database resources (Here is where the greatest savings are - not having to set up a new database and all the associated administrative activities)
(3) Elminates having to do the Export and Import process of formats.
Regards

You will bump into problems. The NNSY tables probably have changed. (Columns added/deleted.) This means that when the NNSY part does any selects on its configuration, the potential is there for some uh-ohs.
I would take the extra 30 minutes and do all 5 steps and avoid the eventual headache.

Todd,
That my point i didn't see any other differences than the data in the
NN_PRODUCT_MSTR table. I could be wrong though.
Thanks

It seems like a nice spot you've made. However if I were you I'd just follow the IBM/NNSY procedure, if thing go wrong you're compromising the level of support they'll give you.
Most likely the first suggestion they give will be to follow the procedure specified. As Todd says, it's not going to be much more effort to follow the defined process is it?
