Hi Guys,
We are on Solaris and right now we are on MQ version 6.
We are migrating to MQ version 7.
I know all the executables will be under /opt/mqm. I took a backup of /opt/mqm file system.
Lets say, we already migrated to version 7 and need to rollback to version 6. Do we need to uninstall MQ version 7 and reinstall version 6?. or just uninstall MQ version 7 and paste the backed up(version 6) /opt/mqm file system will work?.
Thanks. |

you should uninstall v7 and install v6
if you have ever started the qmgrs under v7 you will have to delete them and recreate them in v6. |

... If you take a full backup of the system before you install v7... you can revert to that backup.
I won't comment on partial backups of just /opt or /var/ sections. |

Correct. The Solaris s/w packaging tools (pkgadd etc) keep info about what is installed on the system and the file sets. If you restore /opt/mqm it will corrupt the installation status. However, if you save the *entire system* you can backout to v6 by restoring the entire system. I doubt if the sys admins will like doing that.
WMQ 7 Solaris Quick Beginnings and WMQ 7 Migration Information both say "If you migrate from a previous level of this product without first backing up your system, you cannot revert to your previous level, so back up your system before you install WebSphere MQ Version 7.0. This will enable you to back out the upgrade if necessary. If you back out the upgrade, however, you cannot recover any work performed by WebSphere MQ Version 7.0."

True, because the first time qmgrs are started under v7 they perform internal migration of files and structures to the new version, and these won't work under v6.
Quote from manuals "Immediately after you migrate to WebSphere MQ Version 7.0, you must start your queue managers at least once to migrate your file system structure".
Read the Quick Beginnings and Migration Information manuals very carefully! _________________ Glenn |
