Using mo71 for first time and initial usage seems nice.
Have set up testing of Event monitoring for Queue High and Queue Low per the pdf manual example.
I can't seem to get anything but Queue low events to show up on console
Also the time frame at which they show up is slow and very haphazard.
I have history and detail options set to I can see everything but still no q high events.
I realized I am using an old version of the tool and have downloaded latest version and hope that makes a difference. But any newbie to the tool likely causes of not seeing Q high events. It is a bit frustrating as all looks OK. I have 3 QM in a group and working with one q sending messages with tools put-message function from the action list.
Will take any suggestions. _________________ "Truth is ... grasping the virtually unconditioned",

Not sure whether this suggestion applicable to MO71.
In Omegamon XE, we need to change the QDPHIEV(ENABLED) on the queue whichever you want to monitor the queue depth high event.
To enable the Queue full event, you need to set PERFMEV(ENABLED) on QMgr.
Try this in MO71 and let us know whether it works.
Thanks. |

Yeah, unfortunately I have those both set!
Also am using the latest version of mo71 ... and still see the problem
(could be cock pit problem but I don't see where).
Also did notice again the trying to input the event definition into the tool I selected action-event half a dozen times with no event screen coming up
then finally it did ???? Exhibiting the same behavior as older version ... don't know what is going on there either.
I believe the issues I am having are specific to the mo71 support pac, however.
As I say I can still get the Queue Depth Low event but not the High ??? _________________ "Truth is ... grasping the virtually unconditioned",

Even Paul Clarke would say that MO71 does nothing magic.
Nothing you need to do to enable events for consumption by MO71 is any different than the same things you need to do to enable events for consumption by any other tool.
In a rare flash of helpfulness, IBM has graciously allowed the software team to include the information on how to do this in the documentation.
I wonder if there are conditions that are required before Queue Depth High Events will be generated by the queue manager.
I wonder how one would find out what those conditions are? |

The "WebSphere MQ Monitoring" manual describes all the conditions and it agrees with my experiences with queue depth event messages. _________________ Glenn |

Yep your right Jeff I guess I thought just setting a queue depth HI limit number on the queue and enabling performance events for QMGR and that Q as mentioned by second post and then writing more then the queue depth Hi limit number of messages to that Q would cause a Qdepth hi limit event ... but it didn't or at least mo71 didn't show it!!!
So my mistake for thinking that would be all that is needed ......
Even though Qdept low events fired when I cleared the q and I did it a dozen different times.
So thanks for the tip to read the manuals would not have thought of that, just thought it might have something to do with mo71 setup parameters.. _________________ "Truth is ... grasping the virtually unconditioned",

There is a typo in the MO71 manual which mis-names the event queue you need to monitor.
Why not see if an event message is generated on the queue. If it isn't then this is a MQ problem and nothing to do with MO71.
I was playing with event messages and MO71 and was able to detect queue depth high and queue full with no problems. |

I am on MQ 6.2.2 ... for solaris no problem with that and performance events are there?
Also ... what was the type O you refer to ? It says system.admin.perfm.event is that not correct ?
Also ... I was running the example from chapter 10 ... and it was not working as described ..
Also, as mentioned the fact that the action-event tab would not cause the event build window to come up the first half dozen times I tried it ... made me think something was at issue with mo71 not MQ events. _________________ "Truth is ... grasping the virtually unconditioned",

Forgetfulness and unfortunate choice of max hi and lo event numbers
I set max q depth to 200 and
I set Qdhiev to 100
and Qdloev to 10
Couldn't get Hi to fire unless max was reached then both max and hi fired.
I then remembered aren't the 100 and 10 percentages !!!!!!! not msgs units.
All is/was working as I am sure the 'manuals' state !!! _________________ "Truth is ... grasping the virtually unconditioned",

That is the correct Event queue that is being monitored by mo71 !
SYSTEM.ADMIN.PERFM.EVENT
Not the queue experiencing the performance event that is being monitored by the queue manager.
As I say it works just fine when I realized the percentage issue. _________________ "Truth is ... grasping the virtually unconditioned",
