What I am trying to do: I have to interface to SAP with Websphere Message Broker V6.1. which has the inbuilt SAP nodes to interface with SAP using BAPI or ALE and send Customer Master Record IDOC to create/update/delete.

The questions I have:

1/ Has anyone done this? What did you use BAPI or ALE? What input fields does one have to set? I keep getting a failure status stating you must set all the required fields. However, the only field that I know that must be set is the Customer Number as SAP is set up not to generate this automatically.

2/ When a Customer Master IDOC is sent to SAP, Iam assuming that a return code will be sent back by SAP. This indicates that SAP has received the IDOC successfully and its on its in internal queue for processing subsequently. However, our requirement is that we have to know whether the IDOC was successfully posted within SAP. I am of the opinion that this is manual task within SAP and it should not be the function of the middleware layer as its responsibility is only to successfully deliver the IDOC's. I would welcome opinions on this issue. Please let me know If there is a way to determine if the IDOC has been successfully posted in SAP. Has anyone done something similar?

Thank you

Thank you

SAP has its own checks and balances for IDOCS. Talk to your SAP team.
Successful completion of a BAPI is provided via return structure...

Enjoy
