Hi, just curious if the integrated publish/subscribe feature in MQ7 is gaining acceptance...

Whether the MQ v7 pub/sub stuff is "gaining acceptance" or not should have nothing to do with whether you use it or not.
If you are using Pub/Sub *at all*, and you are using MQ, you should be at least in the planning stages of moving to MQ v7 Pub/Sub, because you should be in at least the planning stages of moving to MQ v7 in general.
If you are not using Pub/Sub, but only considering it, then a) it shouldn't matter what version of MQ you are using, b) you should be targeting v7 Pub/Sub anyway. Make your decision on using Pub/Sub or not based on your requirements, not based on the technology that implements the pub/sub engine.
Thirdly, the MQ v7 Pub/Sub engine is a) significantly easier to use than the v6 MQ pub/sub engine, b) the only choice you'll have moving forward past MQ v6 at all, c) under active development such that you can better ensure that it will meet all of your requirements. |

Well, as a consultant I have seen quiet some shops, and as a teacher in MQ and Message Broker I have met many people from many different companies.
What I keep asking myself is, why so many shops do not even consider Pub/Sub at all.
I mean in the J2EE world this is one of the most natural things to do, while in the MQ and Message Broker world it is not even considered on many places where it would simply be the better design.
So IMO the question really should be "Why is the acceptance of Pub/Sub considerably low?"
Oh, and by the way, I like the new Implementation of Pub/Sub in MQ7. IMO it is just so much more of a real solution. |

Probably because of:
Quote: |
"The broken [client] connection issue is just one example of how the WebSphere MQ culture tends to perpetuate established practices even after they are obsolete or demonstrably broken. I picked it because it illustrates how incumbent cultural memes persist in a broken state despite competition from better modeled and more robust methods with significant support in the user community." |
The full text can be found HERE. Also I think it is because I have found it rare (well, non-existent so far) for a site to do a top-down review of a new release of the middleware used, and therefore just perpetuate their code. _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |

We are looking at broker pub/sub, but I would prefer to use MQ V7 pub/sub.
We don't have MQ V7 deployed yet, hopefully by the time we do there will be a migration tool from broker pub/sub. |

Anyone knows if IBM is planning on keeping Pub Sub on both MQ and Broker? or are they moving into making MQ a pure routing mechanism
and Broker a transform only mechanism
.....thus eliminating Pub Sub from Broker completly down the road?

Someone knows the answer to this question, yes.
They may or may not be able to tell you, though.
Ask your IBM Sales Rep. |
