I understand that it is now possible to use a single WMQ queue manager for both the WMB config manager and the WMB broker.
Is this a good idea?
Where is it documented in the manuals?
The intended platform is AIX, WMB 6.1
Thanks |

It's always been possible to share a qmgr between a Broker and ConfigMgr - at least for values of "always" that extend back to version 2.1 CSD 3. Version 1, maybe not, but I don't know that version 1 *had* a ConfigMgr.
It's a perfectly fine idea. There's nothing wrong with doing it. |

AFAIK it's been possible for a while

That's more a "is this a good idea for you" sort of question. There are pros and cons on both sides; I personally don't (more out of habit I think!) & use 1 queue manager for each object but I imagine a few more opinions will be along in a minute.

Oddly enough, here, under "Designing your MQ infrastructure". _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

I'd recommend it.
If nothing else, it means that you don't have do bother starting channels etc. between the components. |

I suppose it's only become popular since the Config Manager was able to run on Unix.
Do people generally give this single QM the same name as the broker? |

And heres my thoughts..... I normally have a config mgr per environment managing all the brokers for that environment. The config manager has its own server (sits on the deployment server) and its own QM. This can make administration easier as there is one central cfg mgr to deploy to all the brokers in an an environment. This setup is then replicated on my local machine.
On one account i've also seen one cfg mgr for none live environments and another for production. But as Vitor says, its all about whats right for you. |

I have done either. Both did work perfectly well for me.
You might need to consider security aspects, if you need to connect the toolkit to the config manager. |
