I have WMB 6.0, DB2 8.2 (Enterprise Server Edition) on Windows and AIX.
Now, I want to connect a WMB flow to a DB2 database which is on an i-Series platform.
This requires DB/2 connect - does this feature come as standard with DB/2 UDB or is it installed separately?
Do I just need to define the ODBC data source or is there more to it? |

Someone must know - the i-Series platform does not affect the answer.
The question is - does DB/2 EE on AIX/Windows include the DB/2 Connect function? |

No clue - have you cross-posted in a DB2 forum? _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Let me try another angle.
Has anyone who has connected a WMB message flow to a DB2 database on a separate platform (remote if you like) via ODBC had to install DB2 connect to do it? |

There is a bit more to the answer than is readily apparent. With the V8 product - EE for example - the DB2 Connect code was included and allowed up to 5 users - as in real, named people and not server based applications such as WAS and WMB. For those, a DB2 Connect license is required.
So, you should get your IBM marketing rep involved so that you can make sure you fully understand the terms of the license.
For the second part, access to DB2 on the iSeries platform actually goes back to V2.1 at a specific APAR and several apars to the OS/400 op sys.
On the WMB side, you will be defining the ODBC to make the connection to the iSeries along with the security information. On the iSeries side, the userid assigned will need the appropriate levels of access authority. Therefore, I would suggest that you get someone knowledgeable about DB2 on the iSeries involved.
Finally, please keep in mind during your discussions that access to a "remote DB2" is different when that DB2 is on iSeries or zSeries than it is when its on other platforms.
As an aside, the "Supported Environment" statement on the WMB website did not include the iSeries until V6.1. _________________ Bill Matthews |

The Broker install media comes with the necessary DB2 Connect components that you will need to install in order to connect to a remote database.
You can perform an install from the Broker media of the Db2 EE product that you are licensed to use for Broker, and perform that install in such a way that you have *not* installed the necessary DB2 Connect components.
I don't believe that's part of the default install option, however. With the default DB2 EE install, you should have the necessary components to create a remote connection to a user database being hosted by DB2 UDB.
Connecting to an iSeries or zSeries DB2 instance, however, is not the same thing as connecting to a remote DB2 UDB. |

OK thanks.
WMB 6.0 does support remote use of i-Series DB2 according to the install guide.
I have asked IBM for clarification of their web site statement that "DB2 connect is included in many DB2 products"! |
