i had exactlty the same problem.
What i have done is to use ProcExp (from free SysInternals tool) to see where the installation was blocked (by seaching which process locking the amqt0002.txt).
I have copy-paste the command string (was the installation of GSKit with GSK7WIN.exe) innotepad.
I have killed the blocking process ... and then the installation has finished succesfully.
I have reexecuted the blocking command string for cmd.exe without problems.
I have verified the possible usage of GSKit by creating a CMS and a JKS certificate stores.

The installation of WMQ was followed with the installation of Fixpack 6.0.2.3 and a sample QM created during finalisation.

I have encoutered a strange behavior after : some parameters as copepage (437) were not accessible or displayed when consulting QM characteristics. MO71 in client mode was not able to connect because cannot translate PCF commands (code page unknown)... after stopping and restarting QM, it seems to works.

Regards.

I've followed tompa's directions and was able to install MQ without gskit but I can't get the gskit installation to work. It just seems to go off and run setup with no activity forever.

Any thoughts?

is this a new install?
are you installing the trial version?
which version are you installing V6 or V7?
any messages? any logs? etc.

New install of the client
Typical install failed on the AMQT0002.txt
Canceled install, reinstalled per tompa with AMQINSTALLGSKIT=0
Then unpacked gsk7win.exe and copied the command to install gskit:

setup.exe AMQWMQ60 "C:\Program Files" -SMS -s -f1"C:\Temp\gskit\setup.iss" 1>"C:\Temp\amqt0001.txt" 2>&1'; dir 'C:\Temp\gskit'

This seems to sit in never never land, with amqt0001.txt never having any data in it, SETUP.EXE in the task manager with no activity.

If you can point me toward logs, I'll post that information.

Can you install gskit with just the client?

Probably in the temp folder.

I'll guess this is WMQv6 from the command, it would be nice if as asked you confirmed the version. Also if this is the full version or the trial.

What version of Windows? If it is WMQv6 & you're using Vista, you're on your own.

It's the client only, which is free but not trial if I read correctly. 6.0.2.5. And installing on Windows XP.

If I attempt to run the setup after the first install without the gskit, it does run and try to install gskit but hangs on amqt003.txt

Last lines in in the log file is:

maybe a nit pick but:
shouldn't there be a " " (space) between -f1 and "C:\...

also are you using the server cd's to install the client only or the
client cd's
