Hello,

in a windows box with 6.0.2.5, when I use amqmdain to start/stop a qmgr it takes more or less 2 minutes before something happens in the windows event viewer. With strmqm or endmqm its immediate. I know these are not the correct way, but what can be delaying the amqmdain? Some authority checking?

Thanks
joao

I tried that on my local machine with Windows server and MQ 6.0.2.4. It responded quickly.

Very true, one should not be using it. I hope you tried that just for testing.

amqmdain actually work on mq root process. I think depends on server load, the time varies.

I did some testing. In the box were amqmdain takes long start, I have 32 qmgrs ... don-t ask

Deleting 20 of them, they were really used for test, seems to improve amqmdain performance.

32 queue managers? On a Windows box? All running?

That's a record.

One thing I've noticed with Windows is that more queue managers can be started with strmqm than with amqmdain. I've had occasions when I couldn't start more than 9 queue managers using MQExplorer, but could start all 20 using strmqm and then start MQExplorer and have them all appear and working correctly - it is a test box by the way!

Can someone point the scenarios wherein we should use amqmdain ? I checked the mannuals and links but was not able to find a satisfactory reply.

You should always use it. I only ever use strmqm in my sand-pit environment.

IMHO it's a bad habit to get into. It's only available on Windows so any experience you gain it not portable.
