Hey Guys, ,
I am trying to find good books or links to show the basic administrator tasks for WMB on AIX. Things like installation and deploying of flows. my background is in MQ at windows environments so I am not sure how hard will the administration of WMB on AIX will be. Please advice ,, I really need some guide here  ,,

At the risk of being very, very obvious WMB is a completely different product to WMQ. The structure, organisation and topology is different because it does something completely different. One key difference (to illustrate the point) is that WMQ typically has a set of objects (like queues) which are defined by an administrator according to requirement and then remain more or less static; day-to-day administration is ensuring the correct operation of the software. The flows on WMB are much more fluid, changing in response to application development and typically syncronised with it. You therefore end up with a very different administative task set.
Having said that, there's a wealth of information on the subject. The IBM infocenter (like the one for WMQ) is an ideal starting place.
IMHO you're more likely to have problems with the AIX side if you've no experience of Unix, just Windows. The control of this platform is very different to Windows, but again there are many books on the subject.

If you have spent all your time administering WMQ or WMB on windows using only command line stuff, then you will have an easier time administering it on AIX - it's only the paths and the regular shell commands (not the MQ or Broker commands) that are different.
If you have spent all your time administering things on Windows using GUIs, then you may or may not be able to just connect your Broker Toolkit and WMQ Explorer to the objects on the AIX machine remotely. It depends on network and os level security. Or you can learn the joys of X-Windows, and maybe something like Cygwin, and get a GUI from the AIX machine on your desktop. |

I follow the reasoning about the installers using X11 (X-windows).
I thought the broker's toolkit was only Windows and Linux... has this changed?

No, you're right. Neither Toolkit nor MQ Explorer run on AIX natively. Sorry, forgot that bit.

I managed to install the message broker and configure the database on my AIX server . Can the message broker toolkit be installed by itself on a windows machine to admin the broker on the AIX server? If yes , do I need any pre softwares installed on the windows machine?

Installing the Toolkit will also install the necessary portions of the MQ client (buried inside the Toolkit install, not as a separate installed piece) to create a connection to the Configuration Manager's queue manager.
This will give you everything you need to administer the Broker. But you will have to grant your Windows user ACL permissions in the ConfigMgr to administer things. This is done with mqsicreateaclentry, run on the configmgr machine (likely this is the same AIX machine as the broker). |

Thanks for the reply mqJeff , I have one more question , since I am using the toolkit on a windows machine to admin a broker on an AIX server , where would the configuration manager sets ? I did create the configuration manager on the AIX box , however , reading the manual for using the toolkit , it is asking me to create a default configuration manager , do I need one on the the windows machine? I guess I am still confused on what need to be created on the windows server in addition to just installing the toolkit. I was thinking it is a matter of connecting to the broker domain on the AIX server . Can you please advice ?

The default configuration is for a development workstation
broker/configmgr all on one stack.
You can have the configmgr on AIX (this is our prod setup). Make sure you create the necessary acl entries to be able to connect to it from the toolkit.
