Hi,

I have made a backup mechanism to backup the mq folders
/var/mqm/qmgrs

There are 2 types of files the backup tool will not backup:
./QMNAME/@ipcc/ssem/socket.29998.1
./QMNAME/queues/!!GHOST!C4E185C3!0!15D31EFF!8/q

Are they needed for restore and successfully restart mq after restore ?

Regards,
Tim

If you're going to backup a queue manager, you're much better advised to use the product facilities than lift the file system. For one thing you don't need to shut down the queue managers!

The 2 items you mention are IIRC internal files. You will need them for restore. Ensure that all queue manager functions and demons are shut down before attempting this backup.

Thanks for that! I also use MS03 and MqDocument to cleanly backup my configuration. This backup is supposed to use as last hope.

I read somewhere you could delete all those files to start the q manager again:
http://www.mqseries.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=464&sid=ddf14121950d873cf6f4238075b81373

Therefor I thought I do not need those files as they appear to be 0 byte semaphores or something like that ...

That thread is 7 years old and I'd hate to rely on it's contents only to discover later versions of the product work differently.

As a general policy (for continuous MQ operation and continued emplyment), stay out of the MQ filesystem, and don't alter permissions. MQ puts things where it wants them, with the appropriate permissions.

Use supplied utilities to do sysadmin. Resist the urge to delete or move things. Windows sysadmins: resist the urge to visit the Registry.

The backup/restore wheel has been invented.
