When am trying to install MQv6.o on Solaris 8 am getting the below error
ERROR : Product mq java is installed on this system - the function of mqjava is now supplied by websphere mq and you must uninstall mqjava before proceding
MQ client is alreday installed on the server and i can see the folder called Java under /opt/mqm
I think if i delete that java folder from /opt/mqm the installtion will go smoothly but my client is asking what will happened to the existing applciaton that are connected using mq client if we remove java folder from /opt/mqm
And here one more question is we have the same setup in the Test Server ther we have installed the software with out having any issues we are having the issue with only prod server
could you please any one suggest me to overcome this issue |

yes, Client is alreday installed means (ma88 support pack), but when am trying to install MQ Server am getting the error saying that mqjava is alreday installed
And presently there are few applicaitons running by using the mq client, I have understand that we need to un-install the any support packs that installed before proceding for the MQ Server but am not sure how to un-install that service pack and if i un-install support pack is there any problem for the existing applications as the server is important production server
From the documents i understand support packs are outdated from MQv6 |

Disclaimer: It's been a long time since we operated under Solaris 8....
I'm still not sure I understand.
On this production server, there is no MQ Server installed at present?
Do you have only the java support (MA88) or do you have a full client installation?
Post the output of:
pkgparam mqm CLASSES
How is the production server different from development? Do you know what it looked like before v6.0 was installed? |

The MA88 support pac is now part of the main product, and must be removed before the main product install will proceed.
Any applications that connected using the MA88 functionality will work unchanged once the new client is installed. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

No, you need to uninstall the product 'mqjava'. The Websphere MQ checkinstall script issues 'pkginfo mqjava' and if that product is installed issues the message. You need to run 'pkgrm mqjava' . When you subsequently install WebSphere MQ make sure you sellect the option that is labelled "WebSphere MQ Client libraries ( including Java, JMS ..." _________________ Philip Morten

Why? What, exactly, is the point of keeping ma88? What, exactly, is the point of trying to fudge the install?

I don't know, but I'd be surprised if it went smoothly. Try it and see what happens.
If it does install, be sure to test your MQ aware Java extensively. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Actually, there are some important appilcations are running on the server, because of some reasons if the MQ is not installed properly then it's a big disater for all otehr applicaions
That's the reason why client is asking is there any way to take the backup of ma88 |

(A java folder under /var/mqm? Are you sure? Or is it /opt/mqm?)
I'm not a Solaris expert, but I don't think that renaming or moving a folder will take the entry out of the pkg catalog; I doubt that you can fool the MQ install in this way.
Didn't you say that you have MQ6x running in development now? Does that not give your client some degree of comfort?
Taking a 'backup' of MA88 files is not a backout plan. If you want to use MA88, I suspect you would need to backout v6. Here's a post that might be relevant:

In an odd turn of events, I am going to be a little less gentle than Vitor.... there's no way on earth I would agree not to properly uninstall MA88. No way. You are just asking for trouble. Much better to have a comprehensive backout plan to offer your client.
Good luck with your upgrade. |
