From reading other posts I can see that there seems to be a problem when using userid's that are greater than 12 characters. I have just started a new job and have been given a userid of 14 characters and I am encoutnering a problem connection to my broker domain / config mgr.

I have successfully installed DB2 8.2, MQ 6 and Broker 5 CSD 8 on my local machine (XP). I have created all three DB2 databases and have had them starting using a local admin account (called BrokerMQ).

When I open the toolkit and connect to the config mgr I see the following error in the Event log

Code:
Event Type:   Error
Event Source:   BIPv500
Event Category:   None
Event ID:   8282
Date:      28/11/2008
Time:      09:03:04
User:      N/A
Computer:   ###########
Description:
( ConfigMgr ) Error in call NetUserGetLocalGroups() to the NT security domain with return code 2221.

A component of WebSphere Business Integration Message Brokers is attempting to call the NT security domain. The security subsystem returned an error code.

Check NT security subsystem documentation for the reported error. Restart the relevant service component (UserNameServer, or Configuration Manager). Ensure that a Domain Controller, either Primary or Backup, is available.

If I use the "run as" option when opening the toolkit, using a local admin account, I can connect to the config manager with no problems.

I have got one of my colleagues to log on to my machine (they have a userid of 11 characters, which I have added to add the same local groups as my userid) and I can connect to the config manager with no problems.

I suspect this doesn't bode well for me connecting to remote config managers??

I feel I have one of two options, request a new userid of 12 characters or less OR use a local account to open the tool kit, but this would have implications when connecting to remote config managers in our companys tightly controlled security proecesses.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I suspect you're right.

I'd try for a shorter id, though if you're working at the tightly controlled site in Northampton I suspect you are (and at which I recently interviewed btw) that's going to be an interesting administrative exercise.

I won't restart the old debate about this being a problem with WMQ or a problem with Windows domain authentication. Though forum regulars will know which expalaination I favour.

Thanks for the reply.

I am about to raise a change to change the length of my userid.

For information - As a quick fix for my local broker, I've updated the MCA attribute of the channel SYSTEM.BKR.CONFIG to a local admin account.

This may not be possible for other brokers on our companies estate due to security concerns.
