Need to rebuild an old system on a new processor. I have the base product media, but lost track of CSD5. If anyone still has it, or knows how to get it, please contact me offline. Also, skip the lectures/criticism about how old it is, or how I should upgrade.

Now that sounds like a man who's had the age/upgrade discussion a few times already.....
Does it have to be CSD05, or will any patch to the out-of-service v5.3 do? _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Be sure and preserve it. One day it'll be worth a fortune...
"Ladies and gentlemen, our next lot is the last known copy of v5.3 CSD05. Can I start the bidding at $10m? $10m anywhere? Thank you. $20m. $25m ... "

If we're auctioning things off, I have a CD of "IBM MQSeries for OS/2 WARP" Version 5.1. We moved last year and I couldn't bring myself to throw it away. I figured it would one day be really valuable..... |

i am a little curious as to why this particular CSD is required, there is no special virtue about any maintenance level, it is just the latest at the time of its release and is superseded by the next one when more fixes become available. admittedly, there were some CSDs with problems, like CSD3 which omitted the SNA library, and CSD8/9, which only affected java clients putting msgs of more than 32k. otherwise, onwards and upwards is ggenerally a good thing.
would you mind sharing the reason that this has to be done?
i am soeculating that it has been mandated by a non-technical management |

My guess is that it application related, i.e. the application has only been 'signed off' at a particular WMQ release and patch level. I had one project tell me I couldn't apply a patch as it 'didn't work with our application, it breaks it' - I applied it anyway and they had to fix their app! _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |

Using the "if we change something the magic will go away" line of reasoning? I'd not be surprised either.
Back versions of the software should carry a management safety sticker - "Use of this version may cause a trout to hit you unexpectedly"

The point of using the same CSD level is because we are migrating an old system that operates at that level. Let sleeping dogs lie... |

Better to sneak up on them and give them a make-over _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |
