Hi,
I was trying to migrate qmgr in MSCS from v 5.3 to v 6.The installation script is failing saying that "SupportPac MC74 (Microsoft Cluster Server support) is installed on this system. You must uninstall the SupportPac before installing WebSphere MQ server; see the Installation Guide. (AMQ4753)".The qmgr is running as active/passive mode in MSCS.My questions are:
1) Can i install MQ v6 without uninstalling MC74?
2)If no,How can i uninstall MC74?Please provide me detailed procedure.
3)If i uninstall MSCS,will the migrated qmgr be under MSCS control and failover to passive machine once the active machine fails without doing any additional steps? If no,how to make the qmgrs again in MSCS control?
I am expecting a positive reply immediately as i want to do a production upgrade in very near future. |

I believe your problem lies in the fact that the files for the qmgr will need to be part of the upgrade. (change in format and such). As such you would need to remove the qmgr from the cluster and upgrade the server with the qmgr with downtime. You can then upgrade the server without the qmgr and finally recluster with the failover server once it has been upgraded...
I am sure this procedure is described somewhere in the documentation...
You're going to have to read up on it.

The documentation is accessable via the links at the top of this page. Start with the Clusters manual.

Vitor and I go way back, so I know he meant the MSCS chapter in the MQ System Admin Guide when he typed "Clusters manual".
sijesh.ttv,
Here is the Info Center:
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/wmqv6/v6r0/index.jsp
Search for MSCS and also search for MC74.
I'm surprised you have MC74 on a system with MQ 5.3, as MC74 was no longer needed with MQ 5.3. Its been years since I dealt with MC74. When we upgraded to MQ 5.3 from 5.2.1, we saved off any messages in queues, used MS03 to save the QM definitions, shutdown the QM, moved the QM files from SAN back to local disk using the hamvmqm command, and then we uninstall MA88, MC74 and MQ 5.2.1. Rebooted and reinstalled MQ 5.3. Then rebuilt the QM. Yu don't have to do it this way, but we did
When we went from 5.3 to 6.0, we just upgraded in place.
Read that entire chapter on MSCS in the Sys Admin Guide before proceeding. _________________ Peter Potkay
