I have question regarding configuration : Multiple SDR connected to single RCVR:
I am moving queue manager from one machine to another, but queue manager name and configuration of all channels remains unchanged. So on new machine I have SDR all channels with seqnum=1. Because MQ Series supports multiple SDR connected to single RCVR channel after migration my new SDR channel( with seqnum=1) should be able to connect to existing partner RCVR channel without resetting this RCVR channel ( this RCVR channel was previously connected with old instance of SDR and have different seqnum) - q-manager should recognize is as another SDR instance connected to same RCVR and transfer messages without issues- am I right ? or I missed something. I did this exercise for couple channels and sometime it is working fine , but in most cases I need to reset RCVR on remote side also to establish successful connection . Also I have noticed that when seqnum is inconsistent channel can be started manually , but it goes into retrying when I want to transfer first message.
regards

As far as the receiving queue manager is concerned it is the same channel, e.g. SDR channel ME.TO.YOU is from Server A and will be the same channel when the queue manager is moved to Server B - the only difference is that the SEQNUM will be the initial value for a newly created channel, hence having to reset the channel. _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |

I think that you don't understand my question here. I know that sequence number would be different on new box, but my question was why this SDR channel on new box ( which as you mentioned has identical name as on old) is not considered as new instance of SDR connected to same RCVR. I am able to set two SDR channels on two q-managers connected to one RCVR channel on destination , and it is working. So during my migration this new SDR channel should be considered as new instance connected to existing RCVR ( new machines has different IP, hostname ) and based on that seqnum reset should not be required. Also I mentioned that this approach sometimes is working (after migration I can work without seqnum reset) , but there is number of examples when I need to reset RCVR channel also- which I believe shouldn't be required in such case. |

I do not use this design, but if I remember correctly one of the things that the common RCVR channel considers is the remote QM name when it has to deal with 2 or more instances of the same channel name. So if a new channel instance comes up and it is from a QM name that you already had in use (even if the IP / hostname is different), you will have problems.
Yet another reason to never have the same QM name twice in your MQ network. _________________ Peter Potkay

Did those SDR's ever have messages sent down them, i.e. their SEQNUM was NOT changed from the initial value set at their creation?
If you created another queue manager and created a SDR to the RCVR I would expect not to issue a reset, however if you have moved queue managers (therefore retaining their name) I think that may have a bearing on it.
Maybe the gurus can shed some light?
And as if by magic, one pops up! _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |

I've used a setup where there are multiple sender channels running into a single receiver and it works fine. What doesn't work is having 2 queue managers with the same name. Even if it held together the routing would be a problem.
Anyway, if this is simply part of migration where the 2 identically named queue managers is a transatory thing that concern doesn't apply. What you can't do during this proces is run both instances simultaniously; the MCA will not be able to tell the instances apart.
The ideal migration is: save the existing queue manager, shut it down, spin up the new one, apply the script and head off into the sunset with the knowledge of a job well done. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.
