Any one have the detail on how the

dspmq command really works and how it determines the status values

QMNAME(XYZ) STATUS(Ended Normally)
QMNAME(XYZ) STATUS(Ended unexpectedly)
QMNAME(XYZ) STATUS(Running)

It is not just looking at some static file contents in the /var/mqm/* filesystem
, such as qmstatus.ini

There is, it appears, to be some sync up logic with processes running or not as well as memory segments in use or not or some combination of these ...
I suspect this is not described in any Admin guide (although I haven't checked).
Any body have some insight on this that can be shared?
