On a Linux host, events are recorded in /var/log/messages in addition to the standard logs.

Is there a way to modify the mqs.ini or qm.ini to redirect these from the system error log to a log file of my choosing?

I know that the /etc/syslog.conf can be modified to pull these out but I would rather do this from an MQ perspective if possible so that the log can be monitored via BMC Patrol.

Corporate policies prevent Patrol from scanning the /var/log/messages file directly.

No, you will need to modify the configuration file of the system log daemon (/etc/syslog.conf).
