All,
I'm stuck and need some help.
A week or so ago, my motherboard died on my PC. Luckily, I use Cobian Backup software to backup everything daily to a contact admin (Network Attached Device). So, I have everything and life is good. I decided to do a complete upgrade to the latest / greatest PC stuff out there. Over the weekend, I re-installed everything and things are looking good (and very, very fast).
But of course MQ Explorer is not cooperating. Here's what I did on my PC (WinXP with SP3 and not Vista).
- I installed WMQ v6
- Applied FP 6.0.2.4
- I copied over my backup "qmgr" and "log" directories for each queue manager (I have 6 QMgrs).
- Ran strmqcfg.exe /c
But MQ Explorer will not recognize my 6 QMgrs. How can I get MQ (or MQ Explorer) to recover / recognize my 6 QMgrs?
Help.
Regards,
Roger Lacroix

As I understand with MQExplorer you should do an export / import of the configuration. Of course you would have that exported config file under version control...
May be you can see something obvious if you export your non working configuration, can change it and reimport it. _________________ MQ & Broker admin |

And do not backup queue managers while they are running, as the file contents and registry may be in an inconsistent state, and if they are restored, there is no guarantee that MQ will work. _________________ Glenn |

Roger,
Did you try it creating the queue managers with same name and attributes and then copy over the directories: qmgrs and log?
On Windows the registry contains the definitions for queue managers, that's why it is recommended to export HKLM\Software\IBM\MQSeries to a .reg file. |

All,
Thanks for the info but sadly, no I had not exported my MQ Explorer settings or my IBM \ MQSeries registry settings which I have come to learn are more import than the MQ Explorer settings.
I fixed the problem the hard way.
- Recreated the 6 QMgrs with the same name, log file settings and port number
- Stop all QMgrs
- Moved the "new" logs and qmgrs directories to a safe place
- Copied the backup logs and qmgrs directories to the MQ_Install directory
- Ran strmqcfg.exe /c
- Started up the 6 QMgrs
- Life is good again.
Does anyone know if you need to backup everything under the key "IBM \ MQSeries" in the registry?
Or can you just do the following 2 keys:
- IBM \ MQseries \ QueueManager
- IBM \ MQseries \ Services
The reason I ask is that there is a lot of stuff under IBM \ MQSeries that is machine and version specific. (i.e. hostname - which I changed for the new PC)

You probably could have done something with amqmdain to recreate the registry? |
