In September, we are going to implement MQSI in an HACMP environment. We may or may not upgrade from AIX 4.2 to AIX 5.1L as well. I know previous versions of MQSI, including MQSI 2.0.2, are compatible with HACMP. In fact, I think there is a support pack document for this, but I think it is MQSI 2.01 or 2.02 based. My question is, has IBM formally certified WMQI 2.1 with HACMP? And what about AIX 5.1L with WMQI 2.1 and HACMP.
MQSeries also has a similar support pack document for HACMP, so I am also wondering if IBM has formally certified MQSeries 5.2 with HACMP and AIX 5.1L?
Cheers :7) |

I don't think MQSI has any specific HACMP awareness or features.
However it can be started and stopped via the HACMP scripts. So I don't see why 2.1 would make any difference. |

Hi,
I'm working with WMQI 2.1, and I know that HACMP is also used in production conditions. So, there is no problem using WMQI 2.1 with HACMP. But I'm not a system or administration-aware profile, so I can't offer more information.
What I know is that an HACMP specialist worked on our platform to install all the tools needed, and that he encountered a lot of problems in configuring the platform. I'll try to look for more data for you.

Zpat - Please see the IC61 Support Pack. There are special versions of the MQSI commands for the HACMP environment. These commands typically have "ha" prefixing the usual command name. For example, to create a broker, one enters "hamqsicreatebroker <broker_name>" instead of the usual "mqsicreatebroker <broker_name>. These commands are documented in the document "Configuring MQSeries Integrator for AIX with HACMP". which is part of the IC61 Support Pack. Only trouble is, that document is dated 4/3/01 which is long before the release date for WMQI 2.1. For this reason, I don't have a warm fuzzy about whether or not IBM has certified WMQI 2.1 in the HACMP environment. Or if anyone has successfully implemented WMQI 2.1 in an HA environment.
Stiffann - I'm sorry to hear your HACMP specialist encountered lots of problems with WMQI 2.1. Was this because he/she was working with WMQI 2.1 in an HA environment? Or was it because this person was HACMP savy, but nnot necessarily MQSI aka WMQI savy. Any information you can post would surely be appreciated by the rest of us whom will soon be facing this issue in person.

This is the flip side of my original question.
Does anyone know if MQ 5.2 with CSD04 will run on AIX 5.1?
The Fact Sheet document for MQ 5.2 under Software Requirements mentions AIX 4.3.2 or AIX 4.3.3 with relevant Y2K fixes.
Obviously AIX 5.1 is "new" and was not available when MQ 5.2 went GA.
Does anyone know if MQ 5.2 will work on AIX 5.1?
I need to know just in case we can't go to MQ 5.3 (i.e. because our parnter is still developing code on MQ 5.2 and AIX 4.3.3).
Thanks. |

We just installed MQ 5.2 on AIX 5.1 with HACMP yesterday and had to apply CSD05 to make it work correctly. We were not able to start two queue managers on a single machine; the problem was fixed after applying CSD05 (CSD05 contains fixes related to shared memory management). _________________ Nicolas Maréchal
