We were running with 3 primary log files and 3 secondary log files in a circular log. I increased the size to 15 primary and 7 secondary. I was wondering if there is any log maintenance I should be performing like purging the logs.

thanks,
Anthony

The benefit of using circular logs (as opposed to linear) is that you don't have to do any log maintenance (in fact can't do any) - the QMgr will cycle through the logs as they fill up, and once all are full it will go back and start at the first again.

This will only be a problem if you have a transaction that spans all of the available log files such that the QMgr cannot start to reuse them again - in which case look at why the transaction is so big, or allocate more log files as you have.

The downside to circular logs is exactly the same as the benefit you stated, namely: the number of log segments is fixed.

Once all log segments are full AND all contain active units of work in-flight, the qmgr cannot re-use the oldest one again.
