I have two MQ servers: S1 & S2, has queue managers QM1 & QM2 on each server. Same queue Q1 on both QM1 & QM2. I am planning to create a cluster; two physical server S1 & S2 as members.
For WAS (Websphere Application Server) configuration, QCF (queue connection factory) has the Host name, Queue Manager Name & Queue name. What would be the Host name & QM name on QCF for MQ cluster?
Also, who will control to load balance the message? Means, who has a physical control to resolve to Server S1 or S2? |

I do hope that QM1 and QM2 are symbolic names and that you haven't got the same actual queue manager names on each server - if you have, trying to cluster them is a really bad idea...
As for WAS, the host name would be whichever server hosts the queue manager to which your WAS instance will connect; your queue manager name will be the one that you choose to connect your WAS instance to. You cannot connect your WAS instance to the 'cluster', i.e. using the cluster name for a queue manager name (as far as I am aware).
That's my WAS knowledge exhausted, but I'm sure an expert will be along in a moment...

exerk is right...
if on version 5.3, You need to have a total of 3 QMs in teh cluster, QM1, QM2 & QM3. QM3 will be the QM to which the application connects. Don't define any cluster queue on QM3. Define cluster queues on QM1 and QM2. So two cluster instances will be visible in QM3. So the messages will be put in the round robin fashion & thus the load balancing.
In version 6.0, you can connect to either QM1 or QM2 and set CLWLUSEQ attribute to "ANY". That will serve the purpose of load balancing. |
