Hi guys, this is not a technical question but i hope some of u have done something like this and can share your knowleadge.

In our enterprise we are setting an environment for message broker and for that we want this:

1 machine for production (1 quad processor) and 1 pasive machine for contingency.
1 machine for QA (1 quad processor)
and 1 machine for development (1 dual procesor)

all this machines are dedicated servers.

So first question: How many licenses should we buy ?
Second question: Do i need to buy any other services from IBM in order to get support packs and fix packs ???

Just to make clear, i need to be 100% sure that we are not violating IBM license aggreaments.

Your share is welcome. Regards.

There are some Support Packs that Cost $$$$. These are the Category 1's.
The others are generally Free, use at your own risk and with no guarantee of support etc.

If you have a valid IBM ID then again generally FixPacks are free to download and use but as a previous reply said, check with your IBM Sales representative for the Chapter & Verse of this issue.

As regards your other questions, your IBM rep could have the ability to 'cut' a deal with a reduced cost for non production licenses. However this does depend on how much you spend with IBM and other issues.

Every time you reinvent the wheel the more square it gets (anon). If in doubt think and investigate before you ask silly questions.

Category 1: Paid & Supported by IBM
Category 2: Unpaid & Unsupported by IBM, written by IBM
Category 3: Unpaid & Supported, written by IBM
Category 4: Unpaid & Unsupported, written by non-IBM.

So Category 1&3 are supported under standard IBM terms & services. You can open PMRs on Cat3 SPaks.

Thank you very much for your answers.

So am i forced to buy support for all my licenses ?? i mean if support cost 100 i have to pay 100xnumber of licenses or i only need to pay for 1 ??

PD: I asked this to my IBM vendor but his answer was like "if u want u buy support for 1 or for all brokers"

The only person who can answer this question is your IBM sales representative.

If you do not like the answer they give, you should discuss this fact with them further.
