We are trying to use CICSPlex SM and WMQ Queue Sharing Groups to provide high availability for our applications. Due to application affinities, we cannot use CICSPlex for an application in our environment.
Our solution is to use ARM with alternate host, allow us to run the CICS region on any host. The issue is the CICS connection to WMQ is hard-coded and would require intervention between restarts. Can CICS connect to the QGS name instead of the queue manager name.
We have a queue sharing group with 3 queue managers on 3 LPARs. |

The book says:
For CICS, you can use only the queue manager to which the CICS system is connected. The QMgrName parameter must still be specified, but its value is ignored; blanks are recommended.
To connect a qmgr to CICS, the qmgr name is specified in the SIT initparm or sequential terminal CKQC. Can the QSG name be used? |

No, unfortunately you cannot specify a QSG name in the Initparm or via CKQC. _________________ Bob Buxton

Well CICS and qmgr go hand in hand. So if you want to process you need to switch the qmgr from host at the same time you do CICS. I sure hope you have some kind of virtual IP switcher so that the MQ network stays intact!

Thanks Bob Buxton. I will have to use ARM with alternate host with alternate JCL in order to specify the queue manager on the alternate host.
Being able to connect CICS to a QSG would be a very good option for CICS. |
