Also, if you tell the service to "run interactively" (or whatever the check box is called these days) and log in to the desktop as the service user, you may see the shell that is running MQIPT, and get a more descriptive error message.

Or if you change the service to run a batch file that redirects the stdout and stderr of MQIPT into a log file...

Hi Kirsty... page 50 of the MQIPT book says

Note: The system PATH environment variable must contain the location of the JNI runtime libraries. The jvm.dll file can be found in the client subdirectory of the JDK.
