Hi All,
I need to install a upgraded MQ Series ver 5.3 to a Tandem system. Now, I need to replicate the all the Queue infomation & other MQ Objects from the old MQ Series ver 5.0 to the new MQ 5.3 version on different Tandem System.
My question is, will the saveqmgr( from MQ Series version 5.0) work for the newer version of the MQ Series 5.3?
Could someone please suggest on this issue.
Thanks in advance. |

I repeat my suggestion that you don't double post.
If your question is will the output of saveqmgr from a WMQ 5.0 installation work on a WMQv5.3, I have 2 questions:
- have you tried it?
- why is your new queue manager v5.3? It's already out of support.
If your question is the saveqmgr you were running on WMQv5.0 run on the WMQv5.3 queue manager, I have 2 questions:
- why is the "new" queue manager v5.3? It's out of support
- why ask the question? Why not just download the v5.3 version of the support pack? Or the v6 version, which I'm fairly confident runs against v5.3 queue managers.

I doubt that. Chris Petty hasn't paid attention to MS03 in a *long* time...
The current maintainer, on the other hand...

Not on Tandem, it's not. The current and only supported version of MQ on Tandem is at v5.3.

The current released version of MS03 can be compiled against v5.0 queue managers, and since you have to compile for nsk anyway... As Vitor says it's best to start with the most recent version and build it on each platform.
There is no need here for using the -v switch to indicate the version of MQSC you want to output.
Otherwise... yes. MQSC produced from a version 5 queue manager should run just fine on a version 5.3 queue manager. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Well guys, thanks for your valuable inputs. I have not yet tried by downloading the saveqmgr for version 5.3!
I am completely new to Tandem environment. I don't know how to compile the saveqmgr in this(Tandem) environment. I doing some google in this topic, but could'nt get any answer on this.
Your valuable comments will be highly appreciated.
Thank you. |

Read the programmer's manual and check the quirks for your platform...

You don't have to run MS03 on every server where you have MQ.
We run it on a central server and connect to every QM in the system in MQ Client mode. I have one place to go to for all my MS03 QM backups. I have one place to backup every day. I have one place to monitor to make sure MS03 backups are happening every day for every QM. I have one place to upgrade whenever a new version of MS03 comes up. _________________ Peter Potkay

Tandem is very different than most other platforms.
There's a recent-ish thread where someone posted a makefile for saveqmgr for tandem. There is one that's included with ms03, and it might work for you.
Or as PeterPotkay says, you can run it from a remote machine using the prebuilt binary for some other platform. Assuming you can connect to the qmgr remotely, that is. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

The makefile for Tandem was built under OSS to create a version of the saveqmgr utility that works for V5.3 that runs in the OSS space.
If you are not familiar with Tandem you will have a difficult time correcting the makefile to make it work on the previous version of MQ that runs in the Guardian space.
However, someone who is familiar with creating a makefile for the Guardian space and is also familiar with MQ may be able to help you. Since you have a Tandem and are using MQ I hope you also have programmers that are using both.
Good Luck, it was very challenging creating the makefile for the OSS space.
P.S. The output for the saveqmgr also had a bug in it that I reported in another thread as well. This only affects you if you PROCESSES. |

To be fair... this is only a "bug" because the MQAT_NSK has the same numeric value as MQAT_GUARDIAN... so ms03 has no way to check whether it should emit "GUARDIAN" or "NSK" for the ApplicationType. So it chooses to emit "GUARDIAN", for historic reasons (i.e. it hasn't been updated ) _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |
