Hi All,

We are planning to migrate MQ from 5.3 to 6.0 on Windows and we have MQ workflow also running on Windows(on the same system).

Will migrating MQ from 5.3 to 6.0 affect/impact the MQ workflow .
What are the steps to be followed for migrating MQ to 6.0 with MQ workflow ?
Any help in this direction would be really appreciated.

Thanks & Regards,
Shilpa

AFIK no issues,

Work Flow is compatible with MQ V6 (Apply latest Refresh pack)

I infact tried this and did not find any issues. One caveat is if you are using JMS and MDBs make sure all platforms involved are upgraded to same version. We tried with a mixture and had to burn lot of midnight oil.

Hi,

Thank you for the information.
But are there any specific steps, precautions to be followed for the migration since we have a MQ dependent application -MQ Workflow running on the system.

Regards,
Shilpa

I agree, here MQ Migration doc has to be referred, taking back up , etc etc has to looked in detail

None of the services should be running (Which ever its accessing MQ)

Check the shared memory and semaphores are freed before, migrating.

Note: Regarding MQ migration; there are opulence data in this forum

Hi Gayathri,

Thank you for the information.
I was just looking up for additional information regrading this migartion and this link gives the details on how to handle MQ Migration from 5.3 to 6.0 with MQ workflow on AIX and DB2 as the database

http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=795&context=SSVLA5&dc=DA400&uid=swg27011598&loc=en_US&cs=UTF-8&lang=en&rss=ct795websphere

Here they mention of updating the database instance to be 64 bit and modifying the MQ workflow setup.
In our case the database is Oracle and the platform is Windows.
Do we have to make these changes explicitly or the migration would take care?

Thanks & Regards,
Shilpa

MQ V6 is a 64 bit Appln,

Inorder to see the performance perfectly well, you must have to modify the same.

Please find out the bit level of Oracle instance, at first
