Hi,
I have a Queue manager running on a Solaris machine (server1) and to access this machine i first connect to another server (Server2) where i authenticate myself and then use
I have another windows based Central server which has MQExplorer installed and lists all QueueManagers installed on different servers. I want to add this new queue manager present on Solaris machine in MQExplorer on my windows server. Is it possible to do that? If yes, any pointers on the steps?
Help would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks,

Not sure if its that simple, but when i try it fails with the error that the Queue Manager is not running. Not sure if its even trying to connect to that server (because it needs to authenticate by ssh thru Server2 to connect to the solaris server). I was expecting some more "solaris" and "ssh" specific configuration for connection.
Also, when i try to ping Server2 (authentication) from my windows box, i get timeouts which means it certainly needs some configuration which would route the connection through ssh instead of a direct connection (which MQ probably applies by default).. |

No it doesn't need ssh. It either needs to client directly onto the box or (more likely) indirect via another queue manager which has connectivity. The Explorer is not logging onto the box, it's talking to the queue manager. And queue managers are the same no matter what distributed platform they are on.
WMQ never logs onto a box, directly or via ssh. It uses it's own port & listener.

No, it just means the network has disabled the ping port (which a lot do). Try telnet instead, and be sure to use the MQ port.
You need to work out (with the aid of your network people) if you can reach the target box directly from the Windows machine (ssh & sign on is irrelevant here, it's routing and credentials that count), or if you need to redirect by quoting a DNS name.
You might need to include some SSL in your channels. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

It sounds like you're trying to use ssh to tunnel the mq traffic?
You really need to discuss this with your network team - they should be able to tell you the proper procedure in your security configuration for establishing a network level link from the Windows machine to the Solaris MQ Listener port. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |
