Hi,
I need to Automate the migration of WMQ on Unix Servers(Sun OS, HP-Unix, AIX etc.). I came across the Fix Pack MS6A at below link:
http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=171&uid=swg24014794&loc=en_US&cs=utf-8&lang=en
According to that in ms6a.pdf support pac automates below steps:
1. Transfer the GA installation image for WMQ V6.0 to the machine.
2. Transfer the installation image of the latest Fix or Refresh Pack
(Maintenance Delivery Vehicle) to the machine.
3. Take a full backup of each queue manager on the machine.
4. Stop all WMQ activity on the machine, including queue managers and
listeners; bringing down the applications connected to those queue
managers.
5. Use the operating system installer to install WMQ V6.0 GA.
6. Use the operating system installer to install the latest WMQ V6.0
maintenance.
7. Trace restart of all queue managers running prior to migration; to
capture the migration of those queue manager.
I want to know the below Details:
a) What is meant by "GA installation image for WMQ V6.0" ?
b) What is meant by "Maintenance Delivery Vehicle" ?
Is is also mentioned as :
WMQ V6.0 installation media and Maintenance Delivery Vehicles are placed
in a central repository and transferred to the individual machines through the
WebSphere MQ infrastructure.
c) What is meant by "Central Repository"
d) By saying "WebSphere MQ infrastructure" does it mean WMQ QMs and Channels etc.(If so Please let me know how may i do the setup)
Please let me know for any further details.
Thanks in Advance. _________________ Rgds,

"GA Installation Image" is "Generally Available" Installation image. It's the base product installer, that has to go down before any FixPacks/RefreshPacks.
The "Maintenance Delivery Vehicle" is just "the FixPack or RefreshPack".
"Central repository" is just "a folder somewhere".
The rest of your questions should be pretty well answered in the SupportPac documentation. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

1)If the central repository means a "folder somewhere", then how is the information placed on that folder be transferred through the MQ infrastructure.
2)The Support Pack documentation says "A single repository can be used for all platforms that are to be installed or updated using the SupportPac. Alternatively individual repositories can be configured for each platform."
Does that mean we need to craete a folder and intermediate folders??? I am very much confused!!! |
