Has anybody configured Websphere MQ explorer for Z OS? If so, could you please detail the steps involved? Tried to do that as per IBM site.
no luck...

What did you do exactly? (what does "per the IBM site" mean?)
What version of MQExplorer do you have?
What version of MQ is on z/OS?

You will only be able to do this if zOS is at v6 qmgr levels, as MQ on zOS doesn't have a command server until the v6 level, and thus doesn't support PCFs and thus doesn't support MQ Explorer...

Jeff: does the MQSC plugin for MQ Explorer do a pass through for zOS qmgrs on those commands or does it translate them into pcf regardless?

Hello Chaps..
My MQ version is 6.0 on Z OS.
MQ explorer version is also 6.0. Queue manger stays at command level 6.0.. I refered to the IBm site wher mq explorer help s available. They asked to create Servcon channel and few other queues for the explorer. but there is something which is stopping us to connect to Mainframe..

I'm with Peter - what site? What URL? What steps did you follow?

Does it call itself "Mr Firewall"?

What's stopping you? What happens when you try to connect? Error messages? Log messages? Explorer hanging? Wailing voices? Smoke billowing from your screen? What?

Help us to help you. Provide some information here - "something's wrong and it doesn't work" covers a very large number of potential causes!!

Since you ask... ms0s uses PCF Escape messages.

zOS doesn't support PCF Escape messages. This was a joy to discover.

So ms0s sends a plain text message to the Command Server, if it can tell that the remote qmgr is zOS.

Make sure you can ping the IP address. Make sure the MQ channel initiator is listing on the port you think it is.

Question: Does MQ explorer on z/OS require the client connection feature to work?

MQ Explorer doesn't require the CAF in order to manage/administer/explore a zOS qmgr.

It does need it if you want to establish a direct connection to the qmgr, instead of by way of another qmgr. (No, I don't know if ms0s will correctly detect the zOS qmgr type if it's an indirect connection).

This appears to be a question about a direct (i.e. client) connection, and therefore the zOS qmgr does need the CAF for this to function.

If you're trying to connect directly to the mainframe (you've entered the mainframe's IP address and a SVRCONN channel name in MQExplorer) you'll need the CAF as jefflowrey says.

On MQ Explorer you have a option called Show/Hide queue manager. There you have to add the mainframe queue manager. When you click on add it asks you the Queue manager name, Ip address, Port number and Serverconn channel name. When you finish with these settings you will be able to connect and work on the mainframe queue manager on MQ Explorer. But you should make sure that Servercon channel is running on mainframe.

Connecting MQExplorer directly to z/OS is essentially the same as any other queue manager (at V6)

If you have CAF and a client channel (SVRCONN) and the Channel initiator is running then it should connect.

If you get 2035 check the system log for RACF violations.
