According to the migration documentation (MQSeries V6 for z/OS System Setup Guide - Page 75 - Application stubs) no recompile of the application programs (coming from MQSeries 5.3.1) is required when migrating to MQSeries V6 on z/OS.
Does anyone already did the migration 5.3.1 to 6.0 and had to re-compile applications? If so, for what reason? Or did it all work fine without recompile?
(just talking about applications here, not exits) _________________ Regards, Butcher |

This site's got the new version on a test LPAR and all the applications seem to be going fine. We're not exactly stretching the capabilities with what we're doing mind, but the basic stuff works fine. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Are you sure recompile doesn't mean relinking here?
I would have thought that at least you need to relink so that the new MQ libraries get picked up... _________________ MQ & Broker admin |

This lot didn't bother, but then they've got a relaxed attitude to danger (still running v5.1 on some distributed production machines).
Like I said, not extensively tested and probably not much function past the "get a message" & "put a message". _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Maybe linking is done dynamically at runtime and the change is limited to the JCL :ignorant: But then what do I know about mainframes?? _________________ MQ & Broker admin |

Typically (and certainly here) you'd statically link with either the CICS stub or the batch stub depending on where the application was running.
What you would change at runtime is the JOBLIB / STEPLIB / CICSLIB / etc that the job is using.
And who does know about mainframes these days anyway?

We went from 5.3.0 to 6.0 a couple of years ago on a few sysplexes and did not have to relink / recompile a single app. _________________ Peter Potkay

FYI, Vitor, I do. I have worked with them for over 25 years. I just don't get to work with them much now (go figure). _________________ IBM Certified MQSeries Specialist

Hey, there's room for 2 of us in the job market!
I must say, this is the first hands-on z/OS gig I've had in 5 years. But my z/OS was a big factor in getting the gig. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

We went from v5.3 for z/OS to v6.0 for z/OS a couple years back. To my knowledge no application group "complained" about having to recompile or relink anything. _________________ Make three correct guesses consecutively and you will establish a reputation as an expert. ~ Laurence J. Peter |
