Hi all,
we are trying to move the queue managers (its configuration files /objects) from a server to a SAN . Will MS03 help me in this regard or i should recreate all the QMGR's, queues, channels etc on SAN seperately?
this is not far High Availability. as architects want to move the QMGRS location from Local disk to SAN i was asked to do this.
Will MS03 help me??
ur advices are greatly appreciated.
Thanks! |

You certainly could use MS03 here.
If you want to recreate your qmgrs.
If you don't want to recreate your qmgrs... You should *still* get the MC91 support pack (if you're running on Unix), and use that to migrate your qmgrs.
MS03 merely allows you to create all the same objects (queues, channels, etc.) that are on one qmgr, on another qmgr. It doesn't have any effect on where the qmgr data is stored.
Or if the SAN disk was going to be relinked into the same physical location in the file system, then you can just do a straight disk copy of the data from the old location to the new location (with the queue manager shut down). _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Hi jefflowrey and others,
now the requirment is changed to moving of logs and data files to SAN not opt/mqm. So if i follow mc91 ( using export command and environment variables)
export MQHAFSDATA="/MQHA/<qmgr>/data"
export MQHAFSLOG="/MQHA/<qmgr>/log"
will it work? . we are not using any HA cluster software. Queue Managers are created by previous admin using MQ software. Now they want to move log files and data files to SAN.
PLease advice. |

Right, so the support pack should allow you to migrate the queue manager into an HA style configuration - where the data and logs are on a different file system than the main disk in the machine where that file system is not mounted into the default location.
The support pack will also create file system links from the default location to the new location.
Which is what you want.
The fact that you don't follow the rest of the support pack, and install an HA system and an application monitor and etc., shouldn't matter a lot. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |
