I am planning to start migrating our cluster from version 5.3.0.13 to 6.0.2.2 on AIX 5.3. In the AIX Quick Beginnings doc it says to check to see if the following support pacs are installed:
MA0C MQSeries® Publish/subscribe
MA0R WebSphere MQ transport for SOAP
MA88 MQSeries Classes for Javaâ„¢ and WebSphere MQ classes for Java Message Service
MACS MQSeries Client libraries for AIX (64-bit)

I saw another thread on this that basically said "you would know because you installed the pacs". However, that doesn't do me any good. I inherited MQ duties in November and the person who was our MQ admin is now long gone. How do I know if she installed these support pacs or not? Thanks!

Liz

MA0C and MA88 have since been incorporated into the product and if you are still running them in 5.3 CSD 13 you are bound to get some curious results...

I believe MA0R has been incorporated in Version 6.0.2.2 but I might be mistaken...

MACS should no longer be necessary in V6 as the qmgr is 64 bit....

Thanks for the reply, that helps.

A second question. I've read conflicting accounts on the best way to migrate on AIX. Is it better to just uninstall MQ 5.3 and then install 6.0 or just upgrade on top of MQ 5.3?

Depends on your needs: Do you need to keep messages in your queues while the upgrade is being performed?

Uninstall doesn't remove qmgrs or qmgr file systems...

On UNIX the only way to get to MQ 6.0 is to first uninstall 5.3. Only on Windows can you upgrade in place without first (manually) removing MQ 5.3.
