Hi, I have a question about the installation directories used to install the broker v6 and broker v5. Currently we have the Broker v5 installed on a linux box in it's own filesysem (/opt/mqsi).
Does anyone know of any problems with installing the v6.0 broker within the same filesysem, ie (/opt/mqsi/v6.0) ? Would IBM support such an installation ? |

V6 will automatically coexist, without you taking any special steps.
And v6.1 will automatically coexist alongside that, too. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

The only think to be wary of, with a mixed V5/V6 environment, is shared use of the broker DB.

...i.e. that brokers of different versions cannot share database schemas.
To echo the comments above, Broker v6 and above is deliberately designed to co-exist with other versions, and will function completely independently. When working with a specific version you just need to source the correct profile.
Component names must still be unique on a given machine. The mqsilist command in v6 and above has a flag (-a) to list all the components on the system, rather than just the ones in the targetted version.

Thanks for the info about the V5/V6 broker. I know about broker v6's ability to co-exist with previous versions but my question was more specific to the physical installation of a V6 broker within a previous V5 broker install filesystem. For example, what would happen if the V5 broker was removed with 'rpm' ? would the V6 directories get removed as they are currently within the V5 directory structure ? |

The v6 install will not get removed, so long as the installer does its job.
If you're worried, then test the scenario or install to a completely unrelated directory. |
