Hi,
I have MQ 5.3 on Win 2003 Server.
Today we re-started our QM while we had a lot of messages on one Trasmission Queue. The Trasmission Queue is persistent.
The restart was ok but all the messages on the Trasmission Queue did not reach the QM on the other end until we did not start (manually) the channel...
Why?
Channel Initiator was setted "Manual"
I'm not expert... Can u help me?
Thx a lot |

If the initiator's manual, the messages won't go until manual action is taken.
Check out the section on channel triggering in the manual for details of automating the process. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Are you trying to say your channel did not start and you want to know why?

Thx... sorry for the stupid questions but I'm not a MQ expert
The QM is setted "Manual" because we are in a cluster (active - passive) enviroment. The listeners are setted "Automatic". The Channel Initiator and Command Server are setted "Manual".
Now I setted the Channel Initiator like "Automatic". This means the Channel Initiator starts at the QM start? And my messages will be delivered to the destionation QM at the QM start? is this correct?
Today I did not start the "Channel Initiator" but I started the Sender Channel associated to the Trasmission Queue. Done this all worked fine... But the Channel Initiator was till stopped... Is this normal?
Now I'm searching the documentation but please can you help answer my stupid questions?
Thx |

We've had more stupid questions than this in the past, and will have in the future. Worry if you're asking the same level of questions in 6 months...

Yes

Yes. The Channel Initiator starts the channel under conditions documented in the manual. The channel also starts if given a manual command to do so. The end effect on message transmission is much the same. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Ok thx... Now I'm understanding...
But why when a new message arrives on the Trasm Queue reaches the destionation QM without the manually starting the channel?
I had this problem only after the QM restart... Is this a triggering condition?

Because a) the channel initiator is now running or b) the channel is still running.
You need to check out the Intercommuniction manual to get an overview of channels, then check out the channel parameters in the System Administrator guide.
Happy Reading! _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

ok... but here can I find Intercommuniction manual?
the problem is that I restarted a lot of time my QM... But i never had this problem... and we did not change the configuration... The channel is started automatically when a message arrives... but the "Channel initiator" is always stopped... is this possibile? |

Repository button at the top of this page. You're looking for the library. Or go to the IBM site & look for the WMQ library. Or search this forum where the URL for it is peppered through the posts.

No. Someone or something started the channel. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

No. Someone or something started the channel. |
Alternate: the channel initiator is not running in the default configuration. So it just "looks" like it is not running but it is ...

We restarted a lot of time our QM... But we never had this problem. The Channel Initiator Service has been setted to "manual" by the IBM experts... And we never started it manually... . So I cant't understand why this time we had to start it manually...
MQ is installad in a cluster (active/passive) enviroment. So the QM Service is setted "Manual". All the listeners are setted "Automatic". The Channel Initi and Command Server are setted "Manual". Now we setted the Channel Initi to Automatic for avoid this problem... Is this correct?

Ahhhh
You are running in an HA environment. It is possible that the HA failover script starts the CHinit, so that the Chl init is only running in the active environment....
Enjoy _________________ MQ & Broker admin |

yes, maybe that the HA failover script starts the CHinit... but the last time it did not work! . is this possible?
Now we setted the Chl init like "Automatic". So the Chl init will start at the QM start (setted "Manual"). Is this correct?
Thx a lot |
