Wayne Schutz is retiring at the end of this year - so in a few weeks - from IBM after 30 years of service.
Wayne has been an invaluable member of the MQ community since there was an MQ community, and was responsible for starting one of the first consulting services dedicated to MQ within IBM.
Although not the original author of saveqmgr, Wayne is the person most associated with it, and took it from a useful example to being one of the most widely used and downloaded SupportPacs there is.
Anyone doing anything with MQ today owes at least a small thanks to Wayne for the work he's done in supporting and promoting MQ in all it's forms and uses.
On a more personal note, he's been an invaluable mentor and inspiration to me in my transition from being an IBM customer to IBM employee in the last two years.
Please take a moment to say Thanks or share a story.

saveqmgr - possibly the most useful support pac ever!
Enjoy your retirement and thanks for your contributions both to the board and the wider community (especially saveqmgr - did I mention how useful it was?)
Don't know what we'll do now; they've put some hack in charge of it.....

Wayne was a pleasure to work with on the MA7K Trigger Monitor support Pak. We found an opportunity for an enhancement and Wayne went out of his way to get it to us for beta testing. Wayne also helped us with some issues regarding MQ Clients. I attended Wayne's sessions at the 2006 conference and found them informative and very entertaining!
Wayne, All the best to you in retirement. I have a feeling we'll see you around... |

Wayne,
good luck for the future. Maybe you still sometimes will have a look to MQSeries.net - and tell us about bothering days without incommodious customers or nerved members of this list .
Many regards and best wishes .

You actually have more to thank Wayne for than you might realize. When MQ was just getting started, there was a lot of resistance from the 'SNA' crowd who felt you could run applications anywhere you wanted as long as MVS was in the name ...
Wayne single handedly started an MQ Practice within IBM Services at Sterling Forrest (may not have all the titles right as I have 'senior' moments more often than I'd like). Jeff Dutton was one of his early recruits by the way. His management (and mine also) said 'This messaging thing will never replace SNA' and took a don't ask, don't tell attitude. Wayne put his head on the block and was proven right.
Without Wayne's efforts to get MQ into the marketplace, it might have ended up as just another technology that IBM didn't capitalize on.
Thanks Wayne. _________________ Dean Keister |

I love my job, and the reason is: I love supporting MQ.
So, Wayne, thanks.... If not for your efforts in promoting MQ, I'd still be racking servers and loading operating systems....
Best wishes on your well-deserved retirement,
Shirley |

If I might add a word of thanks.
What I have appreciated most from Wayne over the past few years is his open mind attitude. No matter how crazy or silly our questions might have seemed he always took the proverbial step back and gave us the friendly consideration of qualifying his answer.
Your kindness had been most appreciated and welcome.
Thanks a lot Wayne and happy trails. _________________ MQ & Broker admin |

Jeff,
I expect that you have already thought about this .. I'm sure our friend would enjoy having a printed copy of all of the good wishes that get posted to this forum added to his book of retirement letters.
Everyone,
There are two times in one's career with IBM when your manager sends out an email to your community and asks for letters of congratulation. The first time is for your 25th Anniversary. The second time is when you retire. _________________ Bill Matthews |
