We are experiencing Workflow timeouts in Production on a weekly basis. The Workflow processes are up and running, but users are unable to access their workitems. Every Monday we need to kill and restart Workflow processes. After restart, users are able to access worklists. It appears we lose Workflow connectivity after 24 hours of inactivity.
The fmcsys.log and fmcerr.log files do not show any problems.
From fmcautil, the execution server is 'active' (2 instance(s) running)
The queue managers seem to be up and running but I haven't been able to check the workflow queues.
Any suggestions as to 1) the problem, 2) what I should check next.
Thanks. _________________ Dean Keister |

Hi,
you are not very specific describing the problem so it is hard to figure out a solution. You did not mention the platform.
What do you mean by Workflow timeouts? Are your client programs getting an RC 14?
What do you mean by killing and restarting Workflow processes? Kill fmc?main or terminate MQWF process instances?
Can you login with fmcautil but not with the web client or standard runtime client?
On a best guess base, you should check the MQWF queues and the MQ error log(s). |

Sorry it took so long to get back. What seems to be happening is that the administration server (fmcamain) stops running. This is on AIX 5L sp2. Now we're trying to determine the cause.
I don't know if it is related to the oracle database we are using. We have moved to Oracle10g and Workflow 3.5 (moving to 3.6).
I checked with someone in IBM who 'thought' it worked but I don't feel comfortable that it has been tried.
Has anyone tried 3.5 or 3.6 with Oracle10g? _________________ Dean Keister |

I see that there is support for Workflow 3.6, MQ 6, Oracle 10g SP 1. Has anyone tired this?
Anyone know if Oracle 10g SP 2 is supported? _________________ Dean Keister |

Oracle 10.2 IS supported starting with MQWF 3.6 SP3 - did you migrate to MQWF 3.6 in the meantime?
You should download and apply the latest MQWF service pack (SP5) and check the readme file. There are many hints and fixes w.r.t. Oracle.
You should definitely figure out what brings your admin server down. Check the MQWF system log and error log. Try also the admin utility to check the log in the MQWF database. Check MQ error logs and Oracle database logs. |

Thanks for the info on Oracle 10.2 and the latest service packs.
Still trying to figure out what brings the admin server down. There has been nothing in MQ or workflow error logs. Will check the Oracle logs again. May have to resort to tracing... Never done that before. _________________ Dean Keister |
