I'd like to install a fixpack on the standby node of an MQ high availability environment. The QMs are on RedHat servers which are in a RedHat cluster using GFS. The /var/mqm/qmgrs/<QMNAME> directory structure is on shared disk in order to accomplish the HA cluster, but the other files are all local to the particular node. My queston is- will the RPM installation of the fixpack be successful on the standby node while the QM is running in support of production on the primary node? If so, I can simply failover onto the standby node with little disruption, and I've completed my upgrade. If not, I have to take a longer outage.
Thanks for any insight! _________________ Andrew Watson

Hi,
We run veritas clusters, and we have a similar setup to what you have described.
We have found that upgrades and application of the fixpacks can be done on the standby node. The queue manager can then be failed over to the standby node to perform the upgrade on the primary node.
You should not need any further outage time other than the time required to perform the failover. _________________ Jon Barry
