Search some posts here... You might want to have a look at MQDocument etc... (looking for posts from M. Dag will help) _________________ MQ & Broker admin |

I am forced by circumstances to suggest MS03 as a viable alternative to MQDocument.
It all depends on what your requirements for "tracking changes" are. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Agreed and I thought about it. I also must confess that we use it to such purpose and store the output to subversion, periodically.
However if you need to present the changes made to management MQDocument and MQArchitect output wins the presentation day...
(You think if my management reads this they'd be willing to pay for a licence?)

We also do this and it works great. A script parses a list of servers, using MS03 to saveqmgrc against known port number usage (1414 etc.)
With MQ6 being rolled out and the latest MS03, it also creates authorisation files which get added to Subversion. We also get the script to email the team a svn status summary so any new/modified qmgrs get listed with a handy "M" or "A" prefix letter at the beginning. _________________ Regards

John,
How detailed does you change report get? Does it show what was changed on a QM? Or just that today's MS03 file is somehow slightly different than yesterday's and you have to go hunt for the change if so inclined?
We keep a rolling 30 days of MS03s for each QM in a central location. I would love to get a report daily showing me what objects are new, what got deleted, and if something changed, how. _________________ Peter Potkay

Peter - If you ran stuff on Unix, rather than windows... the command "diff" might give you what you need...
Also, because John is storing these files in a source control/version control system (presumably under the same name)- that tool is going to always do a DIFF anyway, and save only the changes. So you could likely get the same report if you stored your 30 days in CVS or SVN or CC or PVCS or etc etc etc. Most of these tools have the option to provide a web interface to see change history on a file.
Then you change the name of the ms03 output file at whatever interval you need to take a "checkpoint", or change the scripted options to cause the version control system to mark the file as a new "release" rather than "version" or etc. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Hmmm, we have PVCS, we store all our WBIMB stuff there.
We'll research if PVCS could spit this info out if I put all my MS03 out put there.
If I could get a compiled version of the MS03 client for Linux I would move it over there. Last time I tried I gave up. It was impossible to find a compiler. That was a couple of years ago though. _________________ Peter Potkay

I'm sure the current maintainer of MS03 would be happy to assist with any compilation problems. Linux has always been a targeted release, as far as I'm aware anyway. I'm surprised you had trouble at all, and twice as surprised if you didn't get assistance if you had asked for it. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

The report emailed to the team gives a summary of changes (M = Modified, A=Added qmgr). This is basically the "svn status" output before committing the changes/additions to the repository. Subversion keeps a history of what has changed. Thus you can show the differences between Subversion repository revisions to see exactly what has changed. I would hope that other version control systems can do the same too. _________________ Regards
