If a MQ Client can not connect to the MQ Server, (rc=2059)
is there any place it writes AMQERR01.LOG ?

Is there such a file on the client machine? Or a matching entry in the queue manager's log (which may of course not be the 01 file)?

Look in the Errors folder where you installed the MQ Client code.
