Hubert - zLinux (s390 & s390x) should be easy to add, I would hope to add this at the same time as Solaris.
Jeff - I agree that some of what this SupportPac does on a simple level for WMQ (helping manage versions, invoking the platform installer and distributing packages to machines), a software provisioning package (such as IBM Tivoli Provisioning Manager) can do across all software in an organisation - and much more.
The intention was certainly not to replace these complete enterprise solutions.
I would hope that the SupportPac's script fits with these products - where scripting tends to be part of building each software package.
For example ensuring all WMQ activity is stopped, performing a backup and restarting queue managers.
If you try it, do let me know how you get on. |
Thanks Peter, this would be fine .
Jeff, I tested already some configuration tools, but I like programs which follow the KISS (Keep It Small and Simple) principle . _________________ Regards

Talking about wish lists. Why keep it at the BMW.
Wish for a Maserati or a Ferrari.
May be you'll get a VW beetle or a duck (Citroen 2CV) or a Renault 4L (US equivalent Geo Prism ??)
Enjoy  _________________ MQ & Broker admin |

Hi Peter,
I am trying to use ms6a to roll out MQ V6 before the end of support for MQ V5.3. Repository will be on Intel Linux, additional targets on HP-UX & Solaris. I’ve had a few issues trying to configure:
1. On HP-UX, ms6a_analyse_package.pl doesn’t set $ORIG_DIR correctly.
I had to change ‘env’ to ‘pwd’ to get it to work. I also had to change the directory for perl to /usr/local/bin/perl.
# First use swlist to get a list of top level packages
my @top_level_pkgs;
my $ORIG_DIR;
chomp($ORIG_DIR = `env`);
2. the documentation at 3.1.5 is unclear:
3.1.5 Configure and start a SERVICE object for the server
The following MQSC commands create (and start) a SERVICE object that
starts and stops the repository’s server process with the queue manager.
Replace /largefs/ms6a with the directory to which the package was
extracted, and wmqft_plat with the appropriate binary from Table 1.
I can’t find a reference to wmqft_plat in the service definition but did find it in ms6a_server.sh.
3. ms6a_analyse_package has .pl extension in the supplied package but the documentation has .sh extension.
4. It would be helpful to include the required queue definitions in the doc.
5. Typo in compress command file name in 3.3.2:
Archive and compress:
o AIX/HP-UX/Solaris:
tar -cvf wmqv6_v.r.m.f.tar *
compress wmqv6_v.rm.m.f.tar
5. what uid:gid should be used for the files in the repository?
6. what uid should be used ms6a directory creation and script execution?
Looking forward to using this to automate CSD processes.
Thanks

I always recommend people contact the authors of Cat 2 supportpacs.
It may be faster than waiting for Peter to read this post. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |
