Hi experts,
I'm now designing system administration of WMB on AIX and working on how I can read the syslog outputs of WMB.
There should be a situation when multiple output messages are simultaneously written, for example, error messages, into the syslog by various message flows and those messages should be nested, thus I think a kind of coordination is needed to read the syslog accurately.
Actually, I was assuming that I could easily group those outputs based on 'threadId', but I carefully read the product documentations again and again, there's no explanation about that syslog outputs included threadIds.
There are 'threadId-like' information in the syslog but, according to the official documentation, they don't refer to the threadIds.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance, |

Don't rely on system logs for application level error messages.

Well, I agree with you, but my client is requiring a way to group the multiple syslog outputs.
If there's an indicator or something in the WMB syslog outputs, that's fine.
They need just a 'key' in the syslog. |

Take your best guess, tell the client that it's just a guess, and that if they need something more deterministic, then they need to implement a solution in WMB themselves.
The WMB outputs to syslog are not intended for a) auditing, b) tracking, c) reporting or etc. They're intended for basic troubleshooting purposes.
You can look at accounting & statistics, too. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

you can look at an utility called 'logtool' it has some formatting and filtering capabilities. hey, also as u wud be knowing ... syslog is based on UDP ( connectionless ) it may not be a bad idea to start using syslog-ng ... which is much more efficient than syslog and is based on reliable TCP ( connection oriented )
cheerz!!!
