A controvertial topic:
I am slowly but surely, getting the strange impression that IBM is going to stop supporting AMI in the near future, and has no intention of releasing a new version any time soon.
It seems that the investment is focused on JMS, and for at least a year I have not heard of anything new released for AMI.
This is obviously a problem, since I know many a good customers using AMI on a daily basis. Not to mention huge production systems.
So, the question remains, if one asks whether to use MQI or AMI, what's the answer considering the future ?
If anyone knows whether IBM is realy planning to withdraw support from AMI or this just me being paranoid, and whether any new AMI releases are planned, I would love to hear it.
Cheers. _________________ Nimrod Oren

Hi,
I haven't heard anything about IBM releasing an update to AMI or withdrawing support for it.
I have worked with about 40 clients in the last 4 years (in North America) and not once did a client use AMI. So, my impression is that the AMI user market is small. Therefore, my guess is that IBM would be in a holding pattern with AMI (since IBM is putting their money on Java - hence JMS).
My 2 cents.

The implementation(5.2) on Z/OS didn't give a raise in productivity, because it was difficult to manage in different environments, because the XML should be in a dataset.... not genious
It seems that IBM have moved it into LDAP in version 5.3, so it might be easier to manage, and that might convience management that this is the road... and not use the homegrown API-wrappers every company uses....

The DB2 'enable_MQFunctions' facility, which is relatively recent (UDB 7.2?) depends upon AMI. |
