Hi folks,
I have a customer with a Solaris 8 cluster running MQ 5.2 and Veritas 4.0
I'm finally being allowed to upgrade MQ to V6 thanks to escalating to my customer's bosses about the risk they're facing from being two versions out of support from the end of Sept.
I found the following thread here about upgrading from MQ 5.3 to 6 using MC91:
http://www.mqseries.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=35111&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=veritas
Does any one know if there are any additional steps I need to be aware of by going from 5.2 to 6.0.
I'm hoping that I can uninstall 5.2 and go straight to 6.0. Does this sound plausible?
I know there will be differences (for e.g. the 6.0 qmgr will be 64 bit and will now use the /var/mqm/exits64 directory for security exits) but is my basic approach plausible? Is there anything obvious anyone can think of that I need to consider?
Thanks in advance for your time. |

I would not assume 5.2 --> 6.0 would work...
(I have to admit I never tried either...)
I hope you have a development environment were you can experiment... _________________ Michael

There are a couple of dev environments for this app, but the only one that is clustered isn't clustered. Fun! |

I would first try the plain migration from 5.2 to 6.0 if that works, you then can look at the clustering part _________________ Michael

That's pretty much my plan.
I'm going to go from 5.2 to 6.0 on a standalone server, and then look at using the support pack to upgrade the cluster components once I know I can go from 5.2 to 6.0 directly. |

ok. Good luck and report on your findings, it may help someone else one day... _________________ Michael

I've tested the upgrade from 5.2 directly to 6.0 on a standalone solaris 8 server (i.e. no veritas) and it seemed to be fine.
I uninstalled 5.2, installed 6.0 with Fix Pack 6.0.2.1, started the queue manager and then edited the qm.ini file to know about the exits64 directory (where I had copied 64 bit exit files to). Queue manager started up fine. The queue manager was a member of an Mq cluster, and all channels strated fine and I could do a cluster refresh without any errors. The managers of the full repository can see the queue manager fine.
So far so good... |
