Greetings!
We are creating scripts to do silent installs MQ V6 on a vast number of Sun Solaris servers in our organization. Script removal of V5.3 works well as does the new install of V6 including the creation of queue managers, listeners, start/stop processes, etc, etc.
Problem comes in updating to Patch (CSD) 6.0.2.1. The manual states you must uninstall the base gsk7bas and gsk7bas64 before installing the latest patch. Fine, to do this in interactive mode is no issue but in a silent uninstall pkgrm awaits a response and the script fails.
Using pkgadd, for example, allows a -r parm with a response file for example but no such parm exists for pkgrm. I ran pkgask against V6.0.2.1 patch and obtained a response file but it is not usable in pkgrm. Only way around this seems to be to manually remove the 2 gsk's and then run the script. Because of the number of servers involved this becomes somewhat tedious.
Anyone have this problem or know of a workaround which would allow the gsk removal to be run in silent mode??? Bear. _________________ Software Specialist |

You need to specify an admin file (pkgrm -a <filename>) which specifies that pkgrm should not not check dependencies before uninstalling , I don't seem to be able to get to docs.sun.com at the moment but I think that the file must contain 'idepend=nocheck' , see 'man pkgrm' and 'man -s4 admin' to confirm that. _________________ Philip Morten

Thank you for your reply. Changing the admin file did it! I actually changed all the parms in the admin file that indicated xxxx=ask to xxxx=nocheck. In any event, this allowed us to do the patch update, in this case 6.0.2.1, without having to resort to a manual package remove. Too bad the chaper on Silent install in the QB book doesn't cover this since MQ V6 demands the gsk components need to be removed before installing the patches. Good point, I'll try to get some words put in the instructions for future patches on what you need to do it silently. _________________ Philip Morten
